The Zayed Sustainability Prize in the United Arab Emirates has seen an unprecedented level of interest for its 2027 awards cycle, receiving a total of 10,233 submissions from 177 countries. This marks a significant 32% increase in participation compared to the previous year. The prize is dedicated to recognizing pioneering projects that tackle critical global issues such as climate action, health, food, energy, water, and global high schools.
In this prestigious competition, winners in the climate, health, food, energy, and water categories are set to receive $1 million each. Finalists in these categories will be awarded $150,000. Additionally, six winning high schools will be granted $150,000 each, while their finalists will secure $25,000.
According to Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Director General of the prize, the record-breaking number of entries underscores a growing global appetite for practical and inventive solutions aimed at enhancing quality of life. Notably, more than two-thirds of the submissions were received from developing and emerging economies, with climate action attracting the highest number of entries.
The announcement of the finalists is scheduled for September, and the winners will be celebrated at a ceremony on January 12, 2027. This surge in participation highlights the increasing global focus on sustainable development and the importance of fostering innovative solutions to address pressing global challenges.
