Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has arrived in Ottawa for an official visit aimed at bolstering the bilateral relationship between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Canada. This visit seeks to enhance strategic cooperation and economic ties between the two nations.
During his time in Canada, Sheikh Khaled is scheduled to meet with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to explore avenues for expanding economic partnerships, increasing investment, and advancing collaboration in crucial sectors. These discussions are expected to build upon the longstanding partnership between the UAE and Canada, both of which are striving for sustainable economic growth and shared prosperity.
Accompanying Sheikh Khaled is a high-ranking UAE delegation that includes Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology; Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade; and Mohamed Alsuwaidi, Minister of Investment. This visit follows recent high-level discussions between UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Prime Minister Carney, focusing on strengthening economic and technological partnerships.
A significant development in the relations between the two countries was the finalization of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in July 2026. This agreement is designed to lower trade barriers and improve market access for goods, services, and investments, thereby creating new business opportunities for both nations. The partnership is poised to support cooperation across several strategic industries, including energy, mining, artificial intelligence, infrastructure, and ports. It is further strengthened by a UAE investment commitment of $50 billion, announced during Carney’s visit to the UAE.
The UAE is Canada’s largest export market in the Middle East, highlighting the importance of this relationship in Canada’s regional trade strategy. Both nations are keen to expand commercial opportunities and attract investment while enhancing collaboration in advanced technologies and emerging industries.
Sheikh Khaled’s visit to Canada follows his recent official trip to Greece, where discussions similarly focused on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding economic cooperation. The UAE announced plans for an additional €15 billion investment in Greece as part of a joint initiative, reflecting the UAE’s broader efforts to build strategic partnerships and deepen economic ties with key international partners.
